Think Galleria exhibition space opens at our coworking space - apply for next year's exhibitions now!

This spring in our City Center coworking space we have enjoyed art, as Anetta Lukjanova's exhibition 'Saved for Later' was held there as a part of the weekend program Kollaasi. After receiving lots of positive feedback and creative energy from the artworks, it was clear to us that art had come to stay. Thus, we created Think Galleria, an exhibition space where you can now get your artworks presented!

What is Think Galleria?

Think Galleria is an exhibition space that was established in the spring of 2022 as a part of the Kollaasi weekend program, organized by the Helsinki Think Company and the University of the Arts Helsinki. In the spring, Anetta Lukjanova's exhibition Saved for Later was held in the gallery. After receiving a lot of positive feedback from the exhibition, it was decided that Think Galleria would remain as a colorful part of the space during the next academic year as well.

Through Think Galleria, the connection between art, science and the business world will be increasingly reflected in Helsinki Think Company's operations also in the future.

The gallery is located in our coworking space in Think Corner, where one wall has been reserved for the use of the changing exhibitions. The application for the exhibition period of the academic year 2022-2023 is open from 6 May to 12 June 2022. The duration of one exhibition is 5-6 weeks.

Who can apply?

Anyone interested can apply to hold an exhibition in Think Galleria, regardless of artistic education or orientation.  Helsinki Think Company staff is responsible for exhibition selection, and we emphasize versatility, artistic level and suitability for the space in the selections.

Helsinki Think Company is the entrepreneurship society of the University of Helsinki. As we aim to strengthen entrepreneurial know-how amongst academia, we're primarily looking for exhibitors with:

  • business activities related to their artwork. These activities can be full-time, part-time or anything in between.
  • connection to the University of Helsinki or its disciplines. The connection is not necessary, and can be also seen somehow in the artworks.
  • connection to the activities of Helsinki Think Company. If you have for example sometimes worked in our spaces or participated in our events, we see it as a plus.

What is the space like and what kind of works can be included?

Think Galleria is located in our coworking space at Think Corner, Yliopistonkatu 4, Helsinki city center. The Galleria is open during the opening hours of the coworking space on Mon – Fri from 10 am to 6 pm. The space is well lighted and has one 175cm wide and six 65-100cm wide wall sections where there can be a total of seven large works, or several smaller ones presented. Exhibition works must be mountable onto the walls and they need to be fairly 2-dimensional. So paintings, photographs, drawings or, for example, illustrations or graphic design related to scientific research are suitable. It is not possible to drill into the walls, and therefore the works have to be hung on the wall with double-sided tape or from the rail on the roof. Because the space is used for coworking and people are moving around there, artworks with sound or flashing lights or large / heavy installations are not suitable. Read more about the facilities here, or come and visit us during opening hours.

Prices

No rent is charged for use of the gallery, and no fee is paid for the exhibitor. If the exhibitor wishes, the artworks may be for sale, Helsinki Think Company does not charge a commission. Sale of works is the exhibitor’s responsibility.

What does Think Galleria offer for the exhibitor?

Helsinki Think Company’s staff is happy to help in the installation and dismantling of the exhibition. We also provide the usual materials needed for hanging. During the opening hours, at least one Helsinki Think Company employee is always present in the room, but their primary task is not to supervise the exhibition. The exhibitor is responsible for the material, transport, printing and framing costs of the artworks. The exhibitor is responsible for any insurance of the works.

It is warmly welcome and possible to hold an opening night or other sort of additional activities related to the exhibition. Any responsibilities related to this will be agreed separately. As we want to spread the message about the exhibitions also to people not visiting our spaces often, Helsinki Think Company and the exhibitor both have the right to market the exhibition in their own channels.

How to apply?

Fill in the application form in Typeform by 12 June, 2022. We will notify all applicants of the selections via email by 23 June, 2022. If you are applying as a group, the application will be handled by the group contact who will send a joint application.

To apply, you need a concise exhibition plan, a few pictures of your artworks, hopes related to the exhibition period and a brief description of your possible entrepreneurial activities or of the connection with the disciplines of the University of Helsinki or with the activities of the Helsinki Think Company. Also let us know if you have any ideas for possible additional programs (events, workshops, etc.) related to the exhibition.
